Tactical Urbanism Community Meeting
On behalf of the community, Freewheelin’ Community Bikes secured a $5,000 grant from the Indiana State Department of Health to help neighbors conduct a Tactical Urbanism Project. “What is Tactical Urbanism?” you ask. It is a placemaking tool for including citizens in shaping their own community. Cities are using flexible, short term projects to advance long-term goals related to street safety and public spaces. Neighbors come together to create Pedestrian Plazas or Parklets, for instance. The Mapleton Fall Creek Tactical Urbanism project will be used create Pop Up Park Lanes. (See example projects below)
Interested in participating in this fun community based project? We are hosting a community meeting on Monday, July 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Freewheelin’ Community Bike’s Parking Lot, 3355 Central Ave. Come tell us what fun design ideas you have for for this project. Bring a Chair and a mask and prepare to physically distance.
